Happy 4th

Hello fellow Stuart Islanders,
Since San Juan county is still in Phase 2 of the coronavirus pandemic response, which limits gatherings to 5 people or less per week, the Board has agreed to cancel July 4 th celebrations for this year.
For the same reason we are going to try to conduct the Annual meeting on Saturday July 18 @ 10:00am via an internet Zoom format, email and postings. What we will do is get the issues to be discussed out via email and postings around the island prior to the meeting. If you have anything you’d like to add to the discussions please email, call or catch any of the Board members before then and we will get that on the agenda. A Zoom link will be sent later via email to everyone on the email list.
This is a first time for an unusual experience but we can make this work for everyone. I miss seeing all of our friends and interacting as before but this virus is not going away soon and the threat to many here is truly significant.

Neighborhood Meeting Information

Hello to all of our island neighbors,
Stuart Island has been a very pleasant place to be during these chaotic times of the COVID-19 pandemic and the sun still rises and sets on what for everyone is our piece of paradise in this world.  We all hope that you all have found safety and have been staying healthy along with the rest of your family and friends.
Due to the unique and unusual circumstances this year with the Governor’s stay at home proclamation and social distancing, myself and the Board have decided to delay the 2020 annual meeting until July.  Even though there is no accommodation in our bylaws for governmental mandates such as these, by waiting there is a better chance of having a productive meeting.  By then, we might be in a better circumstance to gather in a socially distanced group and if not, have a combination of a virtual and in person gathering.  We want everyone that wants to participate to have the opportunity.
We will be having a socially distanced Board meeting on Saturday, May 23 and will report to all of you.  We have made progress on the rebuilding of the community ramp and will provide an update with current costs, projections and challenges. As usual, there are always a few other issues and we will be sending out the annual budget summary.
If anyone has an issue that you would like to discuss at the Board meeting please call or email any of the Board members. I have listed their phone numbers and email addresses for your convenience.

friendly reminder

Hey Neighbors, many of us have our pets with us up here on the island.  I’ve been asked to put a short note asking that we really make an effort to keep control of our animals.  No pilot needs to have to do a go around, whether it is caused by deer, geese or dogs (or mowers for that matter.)

Also, there are sheep (both old and young) on the south side of the island that don’t need to be disrupted by our dogs.  They have enough trouble with the Bald Eagles (eagles have to eat too I think!)

Thanks..

New Feature!!

We thought it might be fun to have our island animals recognized!  If you have a dog, a favorite deer, cat, chicken, lamb, cockatiel, get me a picture and a short bio and I’ll post it.  Might be fun.  Today we start with one of my favorites…

Pet of the week

Well I always thought most of our pets are better than most of us people right?  So we are going to highlight the animals in our life.  Today we begin with Rufus, a big dog in a little body!!  Randy and Jamie recently lost Rufus.

rufus

If you ever walked on the beach on Johns Pass you met Rufus.  We asked Jamie and Randy Thompson to write a couple words about him. Here is what they wrote..

Rufus , alias Rufus Dufus, or Rufie Boy. Lived Aug 2003- Oct 2019 Little dog with a big dog attitude. Also affectionately called ”the sheriff“ when in the presence of other dogs. He would run up and down the beach barking and biting at waves. Known for his voracious appetite and lack of discernment, he would eat deer poop, salmon carcass, and even a dead bird. Meal time was his highlight and he would sit upright for minutes begging for food at the table. A great walker, he hiked Tip-Top many times. He was my best buddy and I will always miss him.
