Dry Conditions

The fire department has stated that all burn permits will expire on June 30th.  At that time all outdoor burning will be banned, with the normal exception of “a small recreational fire”.  “A recreational fire may not be more than two feet in diameter, located within a six-foot diameter clear area.” Please don’t leave any fire unattended.  We have had issues in the past with unattended fires getting out of control and we were lucky to get it under control before any serious damage occurred.

Also, private fireworks were made illegal by a voter referendum in 2012.  At this time only professional fireworks displays are legal in San Juan county.

A fire on our island would be awful – remember, it is really dry on our island.

July 4th

Hey Neighbors

July 4th is on a Saturday this year, so our activities will actually fall on July 4th this time.  Games, for young and old, begin at 10am.  Bring your own little crab for the crab race.  Also, bring your dog for the dog race.  The will be a parade again, bring your float and line up at the Thompson’s cabin (on the east end of the runway) – be there by 3pm.

Our annual happy hour and potluck will begin at 5pm.  Bring something to grill, a dish to share, and whatever plates and silverware, cups, etc, that  you will need.  This is always a fun get together so plan to be there!

Community Building

If you made it up for the Memorial Day events you saw how far our community building has come.  We even had some led lighting for the meeting!  Rhys sent me a note with info about some further improvements –

The wiring is done and lighting is all installed now.  Howard Berman picked up some more LED shop lights for the building and a new small generator is in place. There is also a long extension cord available so that the generator can be placed away from the building for noise reduction.

I know Rhys has been busy with this project, Rhys thanks for your time.  Also thanks to all the others who have helped.

On another note, at the last meeting Rhys Spoor and Steve Knopp both agreed to stay on the board for another term so we have the same team on the board at least until next May.

Memorial Day Meetings

Hi All

The neighborhood meeting will be on Sunday, May 24, at 10 am at the community hangar building.  Of course the always fun potluck will be held later that afternoon.

Also, there will be a board meeting on Saturday, May 23, and everyone is invited to attend this meeting.  It will be at the community hangar as well.

See you there..

Our Runway – Again

Folks, the runway is really wet and soft.  Usually our trouble area is towards the west end – I have heard that the east end is pretty bad now as well.  We had another pilot get bogged down on the east end a few days ago – some neighbors helped pull him out of the mud with a truck.  Then, as he tried to get moving again, he caught his prop in the mud, bye bye prop.

Smaller tires will sink into the mud, damaging the runway and possibly damaging your plane.

We’re going to have some work to do getting the runway back in shape once it dries out, but I see that it rained again last night so I don’t expect the runway will be better until we get a dry stretch.

Runway condition

Hi Neighbors,

I’ve received a couple reports about the runway being really soft.  Navigate to the Runway page for specifics dated 3/17, but beware, the west end is pretty sloppy.
