UPDATE We found the owner, and a rescue mission has been arranged! Thanks Jim for letting us know.
Jim Bergquist was kind enough to post this on our forum.. Maybe one of you knows the owner..
A float with aluminum boat on top washed up on the beach west of the State Park in Prevost Harbor. The boat number is WN 6062 NH. I tied it to a big log but it would probably be destroyed if we get a big northeast wind. If one of you owns it, you should contact one of your fellow Stuart Easters to relocate it to a safe place.
Several developments evolved when our float (owners -George & Charlene Renquist / Earl & Joan Root) broke loose and I want to acknowledge all those who helped us with getting it back.
In addition to the US Coast Guard, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security & the Canadian Coast Guard, others jumped in to help, including:
Chris Pack – who first noticed the float had broken loose
Jim Bergquist – who saw the float adrift & tethered it to a log
Randy & Eve Rudd – retrieved the float / boat from Stuart West & secured it back on Stuart East
Mark Green – provided several suggestions when we first learned of our missing float
Bud Wasser – searched when he learned it was missing
Greg Bruce – getting the word out when Jim Bergquist didn’t know who the float belonged to
Rhys Spoor – offered an aerial search
There may be others that we are unaware of who pitched in as well & we wish to express our appreciation. As all of you know a float & dinghy is invaluable with our Stuart Island lifestyle & would be extremely difficult to replace.

Jim,
Thank you for finding our float & boat that broke loose. And for temporarily securing it to prevent further damage. We are coordinating retrieval & appreciate all the Stuart Island neighbors that were on the look out for our missing float/boat. What a relief.
