Another burn pile reminder

I know 99% of you already know this, but our burn pile is located just west of the community building, on the south side of the runway. We have burned in a couple of different places in the past, but just west of the community building is the right spot now. Owners can put yard waste, stumps, limbs, any natural vegetation in that burn pile and it will be burned when the board thinks the time is right.  It is not appropriate to put anything except natural vegetation type material in the burn pile.  Please don’t dump your garbage on community property – someone else will just have to clean up your mess.

Pilots be careful, the runway is really wet

The runway is quite wet on both ends.  Go to the runway info tab for current (1/6/2013) pictures of the runway.  Also, there are areas that have been identified with orange cones that are too wet and soft for taxiing or parking your airplane.  Please respect the cones and don’t taxi into these areas. Thanks for Rhys for a runway condition report and the pictures.

Good News for Prawners?

Hi All,

It is being reported that the spot prawn season will have many more days available this summer than we have had for the last few seasons.

I haven’t seen it yet on the WDFW website, but this news was reported in the San Juan Islander recently and again in the News Tribune.  While the article says there will be more open days this year, it does not indicate exactly which days.  I always felt like this might be good news for the shrimp  too – maybe there won’t be a push to “grab all you can as fast as you can” like there is when you only have a couple days available in the season.

Here is a link to the Tribune article.

Happy Thanksgiving (and where is my forum message?)

I received an email from one of our neighbors saying she tried to post something on the forum and it never showed up.  If that ever happens to you let me know via email and I’ll figure out what’s going on.  I have some software set up that tries to weed out the spam messages and for some reason she got caught up in that.  Believe it or not there have been over 1400 spam messages “trapped” in just the last 3 weeks.  There’s no way I can go thru each to see if it is not spam.  So, let me know if something doesn’t seem right.

Thanks

Crab catch cards

Just a quick reminder to fill in and mail off the crab catch cards.  I think they are due 10/1/12 (the summer cards anyway – if you have a winter card it will be due later).  There is a $10 penalty added to your license fee if you do not report your catch.  You can also do the report online.

2 big events last weekend

We had 2 big events last weekend.  Almost everybody turned out to see Bob Watt get his totem pole in place.  It was successful and it looked like everybody enjoyed seeing Bobs work.

Pictures of the totem pole raising are posted in the neighborhood pictures area, or you can click here to see them.

On another note, congratulations to Ken and Mary Alice as they celebrated a big anniversary – I believe it was their 24th.  Margaritas for everyone! Thanks for the great party!

Totem Pole event

Maybe everyone else knew, but I just recently found out that our neighbor Bob Watt has been working on a totem pole for over a decade and a half.  I had opportunity to take a look at it a few days ago and it is fantastic.

This is a copy of a note posted in the mail shed.  If you are on island next week attend the event!  The totem pole will be on the northwest side of the runway, just across the runway from the mail shack.  Rumor has it that the totem pole tells a “local story”.

Somebody take pictures and send them to me please!  greg@skywagon.ws
