Runway Reports:
A lengthy discussion was held concerning the WPA cabin and the use of the runway by their members. There were two planes that got stuck and also rutted the runway this spring. One plane had small wheels and a student pilot with an instructor that got stuck. Tom Jensen, WPA President, has been working with Rhys to get a procedure on how the WPA can use the runway and the cabin. A NOTAM has been presented to the members of the WPA with directions for its members. It has been suggested that all members who use the runway need prior permission to do so. Rhys asked Randy to look into our insurance policy to see how much insurance overage we have on the runway. It was suggested that we discourage landings during the wet months. Gravel was put on the west end of the runway to fill in the ruts It was suggested that UPS not come to Stuart during the wet months It was noted that we close our runway once a year to keep our private status.
Road Report:
The roads are in good shape. We purchased 40 yards of gravel and several people helped spread it in the potholes.
It was brought up that the improvements should be only on the common areas. A discussion was held and decided that we all pay dues and the roads are used by all therefore the gravel is for the improvements of all the roads of the community. Mark Green offered his truck to drive around and clean up limbs and so forth after the meeting today.
Dock Report:
It was reported that the dock was in reasonable shape. Bob Brunkow volunteered to paint “loading zone, on the dock which has faded.
Fire Wagons and Systems:
Rhys suggested that we need to be very careful about any burning during the dry months. Our fire wagons are not great and need new tires. Rhys asked who had implemented the fire system Jason Douglass proposed last year. Jason was the only one who did set it up. Rhys suggested that we all need to become proactive in keeping our island fire free. The board stated that fireworks are illegal in San Juan County and Stuart Island will comply with the law. It was suggested that everyone should clear any underbrush near their cabins. Rhys reported that we only have one AED and should try and get more. The county will be here to replace the pads on the one we have. A new AED costs about $1,200.00. Rhys reported that EMS from the navy will come to Stuart if the Sheriff is called first. They are capable of landing in very bad weather and there is no cost for their service.
Burn Pile:
The large pile has been taken care of thanks to Mark Green and Denny Swirtz. A fee of $25.00 will be charged to burn stumps.
New Business:
Dave Clark suggested that someone mow the grass in the Prevost parking area. It is getting very long. Parking at the Prevost dock needs some signs stating Day Parking only and also over night parking only. Rhys displayed some clever decals that he and his son made for the hangar slider doors Mike Noble asked if there was a rule about bringing in none native animals to Stuart. There have been some bunny sightings and people are wondering how to get rid of them. There were several clever suggestions, but no resolution.
Financial Report:
Randy read a clever piece about finances before he presented his report. The budget will be the same as last year. The $150.00 assessment is suggested again this year. A motion was made and passed by all present to accept the budget and assessment as presented.
