The 2013 minutes were approved as posted in the mail shed and the web page
Board reports:
Dock Report:
New anchors and chains were put in last year and the ramp was repaired
Runway Report:
It was reported that runway was in good shape
Denny thanked those who helped mow this spring
Denny said that he needs volunteers to help with the mowing and will hold a clinic after the meeting if anyone wants to mow
Walt Winston mentioned that headsets should be used by those who mow. We have one that has a receiver with it. It is in the storage room of the hangar make sure the batteries are charged
People were reminded to be safe around the runway and look before crossing.
Rhys mentioned that there may be some more
Rhys reported that he will look into the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. as there may be some more liability insurance available for us. There are 17 states that have this and Washington may be one of them
WPA people who use the cabin on the island have been good neighbors and want to help stay that way
Road Report:
It was reported that the roads are in reasonable shape
More gravel should be ordered for the road. Dave Clark suggested we get a heavier mix of gravel, as it stays in potholes better
Fire Wagons and Systems
With the new floor in the hangar it is hard to hook up to the wagons without four wheel drive.
Rhys will set up the fire wagons and after the meeting there will be a race to see how long it takes to move the wagons and get the hose operating
New pumps are installed
A long discussion was held about our fire system and what can be done to improve it. We should see how many have wells and water systems that can be hooked up to a hose at their property.
It was suggested that we need more pumps
Charlene Renquist mentioned that we need to be “Fire Wise” and keep our property safe from fires. The grants from Fire Wise have mostly dried up.
Loie Benson mentioned that the property next to the State Park would possibly be where there should be a fire break. Rhys asked her to look into this to see if this property could be cleaned up to created a fire break
Our siren system is not heard all over the association. Rhys has a hand cranked siren that needs some work to get it going.
The fire wagons have a 2” hitch on them
Cell coverage on Stuart Island was discussed. Turn your phone off when you arrive and reboot it when you arrive on Stuart. There is a micro tower that could be used that costs about $200.00
A discussion was held about creating a fire district on Stuart Island Airway Park. This will be looked into.
The hangar floor is completed. Howard reported that he would like to work on lighting for the hangar and try to get the doors installed if money permits. Steve suggested we do doors first to protect the equipment from the moisture. The reason we have $6,000.00 left is because we had donations to the hangar project. Denny donated another slider for the doors. Chris Pack will donate wood for the framing of the doors
New Business
Sally presented the treasurers report. Sally explained our expenses for the past year. She presented what is proposed for the coming season. The dues for the coming year will be $105.00. After a bit of discussion the budget was approved as presented
A long discussion was held about the Prevost dock and what can be done to increase the size of the dock.. Rhys reported that we have a dock that is not a permitted dock and to address it would just open a can of worms. People were interested in working on a larger dock for our use. Dave Clark said he would help if anyone wants to work with him (again) on the dock. He stated that he would not chair the committee. Mark Green, Jason Douglass, and Chris Pack will help look into what can be done about an improved dock. Permitting needs to be looked into first
A thank you was expressed to Walt, Howard, and all those who helped on the hangar project.
A reminder to everyone that there is a bow tie only on the dock and a 15’ limit on length
Also discussed was a shortage of parking at the dock. It was suggested that you leave your rig up by the mail shack on the side of the road
