Approval of pervious meeting minutes:
The minutes for the Sept, 5, 2010 board meeting were approved as presented
Old Business:
Dock:
- It was suggested that we have limited dock space in the summer
- Many options and suggestions were tossed around as to how to accomplish this
- Try to enforce bow tie only
- Install more cleats in the mid section of the dock and where needed
- Much talk about how safe it is to have a dock at the end of the runway
- Much discussion about traffic on foot and car in the over run area
- Much discussion was held on possibly moving the dock to the south about 100 feet and also moving the parking and road approach to the dock
- Concerns about the dock safety will be brought up at the annual meeting
- Greg said that he would look into getting a dock cart. He found one, but it had rubber tires and thought that a solid tire would work better
Runway:
- Much discussion was held on how we make sure we are a private runway
- It was suggested we paint the roof of the hangar “Private”
- Put a notice on the web site that we are private and use is by permission only
- It was reported that we had some planes stuck in the mud this spring and we needed to close part of the runway
- Washington Pilots asked to use the runway this spring for touch and goes and were asked not to. It was reported that they were very cooperative and offered their help in the repair and a work party when needed
- It was suggested that we put a “NTOM” out when the runway is closed. Also suggested that we be in contact with all flight services who use the airstrip, WA Pilots, and on the web page and email contacts
- We discussed our liability insurance policy and Sally said the policy we have costs $1,350.00 a year
- Rhys and Sally will review the coverage before we renew the policy
Roads:
- Much discussion was held on the condition of our roads this spring
- It was brought up that we need to do more road maintenance this summer and that we have material (gravel) available for the whole plat
- There was considerable discussion about what the association is responsible for as far as road maintenance is concerned. We all use the road and the thought is that we need to help maintain them as well
- It was suggested that we contact Mark Green and have him look at the roads and determine what needs to be done and how much material will be needed
- We agreed to ask the association for a supplemental budget to repair the roads. We need to add another $3,000.00 into the maintenance portion of the budget, putting the dues at $130.00 per unit
Lawnmower:
- Dave Clark mention that the old lawn mower that is used in the common areas needs a new deck and said he would do the repairs if we would buy the parts a motion was made and seconded to do this not to exceed $500.00. Motion carried.
Fire Protection:
- Steve Knopp said that he will bring the pump he has to donate to the association for pumping water out of the bay if needed to fight fires
- Rhys tested the siren and will test the pump wagons and check the pump on the Prevost dock after the meeting
Old Business:
- June reported that the trail to the State park is designated as being in the San Juan Trust and that trail is open to all. June also reported that Mr. Ron McDowell, who was building off the trail, passed away this spring
- Rhys reported that George Gund has put Tip Top Hill into the San Juan Trust as well and this land will be open to hike as well
- Steve said that he will go to the park line and put up the sign which was down last fall
New Business:
- June read an email from David Nutter suggesting that we talk to Rock Island putting in an internet and cell tower in the common area on the hill in lot “A”. June will talk with David and see if more information could be gathered before our next board meeting
- Greg and Sally said that they were willing to run for re-election for another term
- It was suggested by Denny that the association purchase a weed eater to trim around the hangar and places in the common area that the lawn mowers can’t get to. Greg made a motion to purchase a weed eater for the association. Motion was seconded and passed
- Rhys reported on his visit to the Board of Equalization and felt that he didn’t get anywhere with the increases they are imposing on Stuart Island residents. He did find out that we have not had any increases in our taxes in the last four years. We do get some EMT benefits from our taxes on Stuart Island.
- It was suggested that besides our roads having names we should have GPS coordinates for our property
- A report was made about some thefts on the island this spring. Everyone needs to be on the lookout for people who don’t belong here
- Hugh Pape and Bridge Elkington passed away this past year
The meeting was adjourned at 12:15
